What it is
The Youth Advisory Table is a group of individuals between the ages of 16 and 25 who have lived experience of homelessness. Members provide valuable insights that influence policy, improve services, and raise awareness about youth homelessness.
How it works
The Youth Advisory Table gathers bi-weekly to discuss and consult with youth programs within the homeless-serving sector, and to plan events and other projects that contribute towards the end of youth homelessness in our city.
Why it’s important
The 2018 Point-In-Time Count – a demographic survey of those experiencing homelessness on a particular night in Calgary – found that approximately 11 per cent of the 2,911 people surveyed were under the age of 18, and a further seven percent were aged 18-24.
Like the adults who form part of the Client Action Committee, youth who are experiencing homelessness are essential partners to Calgary Homeless Foundation. Their voices are important influences on our work and allows the homeless-serving sector to better meet their needs.
