Our impact
Better outcomes for individuals, enhanced capacity in the sector
We help individuals and families find lasting pathways out of homelessness through prevention, diversion, and supportive housing programs. At the same time, we strengthen Calgary’s entire homelessness response by training frontline staff, funding agencies across the sector, and building the collaborative relationships that make our unified approach possible.
1,105
people achieved independence through CHF-coordinated programs last year. Independence means exiting supportive housing to stable independent living, or community programs and primary systems (e.g. long-term care, addictions treatment, or justice).
243
out of the 1,105 people who achieved independence were prevented from entering the homelessness system altogether. Prevention programs help keep individuals housed by providing support, such as one-time financial aid.
549
people were diverted from entering the homelessness system out of the 1,105 who achieved independence. Diversion programs help people avoid chronic homelessness via supports or interventions.
257
Housing Strategists trained in partnership with Distress Centre Calgary.
2,190
supportive housing spots funded for adults, youth, and families with complex needs.
855
frontline agency staff trained at no-cost to the agencies themselves.

Our role
Calgary Homeless Foundation guides the fight against homelessness. Working in alignment with governments and collaboratively with service providers and community partners, we help translate complex system needs into coordinated, efficient ground-level action that maximizes the impact of every resource and creates lasting pathways out of homelessness.

Agency support
Through strategic partnerships, we help maximize the impact of our collective resources and create lasting pathways out of homelessness for Calgarians. We work in-the-trenches alongside agencies to create consistency in approaches and make it easier to navigate the system for clients.

System innovation
& capacity building
We drive system-wide improvements through cutting-edge technology, comprehensive training programs, and ongoing evaluations. By strengthening cross-agency coordination and capacity and promoting data-driven decisions across the sector, we ensure our community’s response grows as our city does.
We gather and analyze data about homelessness in Calgary
Our community-informed data warehouse helps agencies and governments make evidence-based decisions. We track individual pathways through the system over time, forecast emerging trends, and assess program effectiveness to ensure resources are being optimally allocated.

Point-in-Time Count reports
CHF coordinates biennial Point-in-Time (PiT) Counts, which provide a snapshot of Calgary’s homelessness on one specific night. The PiT Count offers insight into the current state of homelessness, helps to identify trends over time, and informs strategies that better serve people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
Extreme Weather Response
Calgary’s Extreme Weather Response (EWR) program provides essential support during conditions that include harsh winter cold, extreme heat, or wildfire smoke. This collaborative initiative, coordinated by CHF in partnership with The City of Calgary and 20+ local organizations, provides warming spaces, transportation, essential supplies, and connection to supports and services when people need them most.

Our partners
We bring diverse community partners together around shared goals and quality standards, strengthening the entire sector through capacity building, knowledge sharing, and system innovation. Our collaborative approach ensures that government partners, frontline agencies, and Indigenous organizations can work together more effectively to address homelessness.
Reporting
We provide comprehensive data and insights that inform better decision-making across Calgary’s homelessness response system. Our annual Report to Community and financial statements demonstrate how every dollar is allocated and optimized to create lasting pathways out of homelessness for Calgarians.
