Calgary Homeless Foundation’s 2010 Annual General Meeting:
The End of the Beginning; the Beginning of the End
6/18/2010
"With such positive momentum and proof that Calgary's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness is working, we're more committed than ever to see an end to homelessness in 2018."
Calgary, Alberta: At today's 2010 Annual General Meeting, the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) described how Calgary agencies are pulling together more than ever to successfully house and support men, women and children at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Calgary.
"The mind-set of the 10 Year Plan is really taking hold, with agencies collaborating and finding new ways to house those most vulnerable," said Tim Richter, President and CEO of the CHF. "With such positive momentum and proof that Calgary's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness is working, we're more committed than ever to see an end to homelessness in 2018."
Details of this progress are available in the 2010 Report to Community and include:
- more than 1,200 people being housed over the first two years of the 10 Year Plan;
- Alberta Housing and Urban Affairs funded emergency shelters seeing declining numbers when comparing monthly numbers with the same month in the previous year;
- a total of 2,165 affordable housing units funded over the past year, including 1,000 units created through The City of Calgary's Attainable Home Ownership Program; and
- co-ordination of re-housing processes for families, resulting in 107 families, plus 70 families fleeing domestic violence, receiving housing with supports and two new shelter diversion projects to provide families at risk of homelessness an alternative to emergency shelters.
In addition to the Report to the Community, the CHF developed a more comprehensive Financial Report, which includes a Management's Discussion and Analysis and published its 2010/2011 Business Plan.
