2010 Community Summit

More than 300 Guests Provided Input for the Next Steps in Calgary's 10 Year Plan

On Wednesday March 3, 2010, the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) hosted a Community Summit to get input into the next steps in Calgary’s 10 Year Plan. Community members also heard about local results to date and ‘best practices’ from other regions of the world.

More than 300 delegates attended, including representatives from front-line agencies, business leaders, the three levels of government, the faith community, formerly homeless individuals and families, volunteers and other concerned Calgarians.

Formal presentations were given by Jeremy Swain, Chief Executive of Thames Reach, Dr. Sam Tsemberis, Founder and Executive Director of Pathways to Housing, and Tim Richter, President and CEO of the Calgary Homeless Foundation. All three presentations are available for download at the bottom of this page, and speaker videos are available on our Facebook page.

A guest panel of clients and case managers, representing the single male, families fleeing domestic violence and youth sectors, shared their stories and provided insights into ‘best practices’ based on their own experiences of being homeless and moving through the homeless-serving system.

The afternoon was dedicated to table conversations on seven discussion topics, followed by a summary of key points from these conversations and an open forum where delegates could ask questions of Tim Richter or make additional comments. The full summary is available for download below.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the 2010 Community Summit for your valuable feedback and support. If you have additional comments or questions, please email the CHF at info@calgaryhomeless.com.
